Veteran Borderlescott 'feels like he's still got it'

BORDERLESCOTT, whose form figures at Goodwood read 212341, returns to the track for another crack at the Blue Square Bet Stewards' Cup on Saturday with connections "sure" the veteran sprinter will run well.

Trained by Robin Bastiman, Borderlescott won the Stewards' Cup in 200 6 before finishing second and third in the race in the following two years.

He then graduated to Group 1 honours, landing the Nunthorpe in 2008 and 2009 and Goodwood's King George Stakes in 2010.

He has not won since then, but the ten-year-old, who races in the colours of James Edgar and William Donaldson, produced an impressive workout on Wednesday.

Bastiman's daughter Rebecca, who looks after Borderlescott and rides him daily, said: "He did a fantastic piece of work on Wednesday and felt like he'd still got it. He seems to like Goodwood, so we're sure he'll run well. But the most important thing is that he comes home safe."

A 16-1 shot with the Stewards' Cup sponsors, Borderlescott will race from stall 11.

"We're happy with that," said Bastiman's wife Pauline "It's near enough where we wanted to be."

GLORIOUS GOODWOOD is one of the highlights of summer racing in Britian and of the social ‘season’.  It attracts 0ver 100,000 racegoers for a meeting that combines high-class racing and high fashion in an atmosphere that is more informal than Royal Ascot.
